Council President

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Position: Council President

Reports To: Congregation

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Provide strong, visible leadership for the Council and the Church.
  • Interact with the congregation and maintain an awareness of issues and concerns of the church.
  • Set an example for attendance, participation and support re: church related activities.
  • Serve as a member of the Executive Committee.
  • Collaborate with the pastor, council vice president to develop the agenda for council meetings and to deal with special situations as they arise.
  • Chair council meetings.
  • Arrange for special committee meetings, task teams and work groups as required to maintain a viable, involved congregation.
  • Chair the annual meeting
  • Provide advice and assistance to those involved in the work of the church.
  • Support as "cheerleader" for those involved in the ministries of the church.
  • Establish a good relation with St. Thomas Academy and help lead the joint quarterly meetings of the board.
  • Serve as check signer.
  • Share with the Council Vice-President, as liaison, support and review activities of all Committees in furthering the mission of the congregation.
  • Attend once a year the Standing Committees meetings.
  • Enforce the constitution and by-laws of the congregation as embodied in the resolutions of the Voting Membership.
  • Appoint special ad-hoc committees as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as Council Member
