Congregational Church Council Member

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Position: Council Member

Reports To: Congregation

Responsibilities & Expectations:

• Provide active and visible leadership for the church.
• Set an example for attendance, participation and support re: church related activities.
• Assist in the development and implementation of a Mission Statement for the church.
• Maintain an awareness of external and internal factors influencing the health of the church and the good of the order.
• Collaborate with pastors, council members and other lay leaders to establish programs and ministries that will sustain and enhance a viable and effective congregation.
• Attend Council meetings as scheduled and participate actively in the discussions and decisions.
• Serve as an information conduit to and from members of the congregation. Actively seek input regarding concerns and needs of the people.
• Participate in assigned committee meetings as scheduled and serve as the liaison between the committee and the council. Support committee chairpersons.
• Periodically visit meetings held by committees and ministries of the church to show interest and to convey appreciation and support for their efforts.
• Make special effort to attend the various church functions.
• Become knowledgeable of the constitution, by-laws, and policies of the church and assist in maintaining compliance.
• Support St. Thomas Academy leadership in maintaining a strong Christian education program.
